Title says it all.
I'm currently downloading Microsoft Office 2013. My BayanTel wifi is so slow that I could go on for 3 movies (perhaps) and this shit wont still be done. Add too much humidity in this sick city and I am all out for an irritating day. Okay it's just 11am and this post is full of rants already. I feel groggy and uneasy like I just want to teleport at my bed right now and watch some movies in my room with full blast air-con.

Phnom Penh: Capital City of Cambodia
Some of us travelers are too adventurous that's why spending time at Siem Reap isn't really enough. To satisfy the ultimate KHMER EXPERIENCE, I suggest to go the capital city, Phnom Penh.
I've read in some travel forums/blogs that It's not worth it to go to said city. Sure does that place doesn't have that much to offer to tourist but it is THE PERFECT PLACE to understand the history and struggle of Cambodia.
**Mode of transportation going to Phnom Penh
a) Airplane - Since there's no direct flight from Manila to Phnom Penh, you have to purchase another ticket for Angkor International Airport - Phnom Penh International Airport route. Does the country have their own carrier? Yes! Cambodia Angkor Air is a government owned airline company. Flight time is around 45mins to 1 hr.
b) Bus - There are alot of bus companies with SR-PP route. I'll mention the popular ones.
Giant Ibis - 13USD one way. Ticket is kinda expensive but the buses are new and spacious. They have a shuttle that will pick you up from your hotel going to the bus station. They also give out free food (bread) and free bottled water. Free WiFi
Mekong Express - a very trusted bus company for this route. Ticket is cheaper than Giant Ibis. Their buses are kinda old. They give out food and water too. Free WiFi
Rithy Mony - I just saw this bus while I'm killing time at the station. Don't have much idea.
c) Tuktuk - costs 2,000USD. KIDDING. haha! It's very impossible.
d) Boat - costs 35USD and may take 6hours or more travel. Not recommended to do this.
So there, you only have two better options: either bus or airplane. If you're rich enough and want convenience then head for the flight. If it's totally fine for you to sit for 6 to 7 straight hours, then go for bus.
How to purchase bus tickets to Phnom Penh?
Tell your guesthouse/hotel beforehand that you need tickets, they will gladly help you with it. Before when I stayed at Bou Savy, I just told the owner that I am leaving on this particular date and I prefer this certain bus company (Giant Ibis) It's easy. If ever you don't wanna reserve, you can try your luck by going to the bus station and directly purchase there (some instances that trips are fully booked so don't risk it). Take note of the departure times ok?
**For more info on schedules and ticket prices

www.giantibis.com
If the bus company doesn't have free pick up from my hotel going to the bus station, how to go there?
Just hail a tuktuk and say bus station. They already know it. If your hotel/guesthouse is near crossing of Sivutha Blvd and Road no. 6 (like Ta Som, Bou Savy and Sokha Angkor Hotel) you only need to pay 2.50USD. That's the cheapest you can get. Some may ask for 3USD, totaly fine.
What to expect with the 6 to 7 hrs ride to the main city?
Well, your butt will hurt? Lol. kidding aside, there's nothing to see outside so you better sleep and have a good rest. There are 3 major provinces that you'll pass by en route: Kompong Thom, Kompong Cham and Kandal. When the guide says that you're already at Kandal, rejoice! You're already near Phnom Penh.
Phnom Penh: A small but beautiful city
Where to stay?
I'm so sorry for this part. I don't have any to suggest especially for budget travelers. Might as well check on Tripadvisor for guesthouses (usually should be near the RIVERSIDE). I stayed in a semi-expensive hotel in Phnom Penh last January (hotel 240) 50USD/night. I love their rooms so much. If you have budget, opt to stay here. www.240.asia
The most important question of all: Where to go, what to do?
I'll jot down here everything that I can remember, scroll down.
Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum
There's an entrance fee for tourist. As far as I remember, around 2 to 5USD. Seriously, I won't go back
here. After touring inside, I felt so sad and heavy. Tuol Sleng is actually a school-turned-hell. A lot of
people were persecuted there during Khmer Rouge. I don't wanna go into details as to not spoil what
are needed to be seen.
Killing Fields
A bit far but a suggested place to go to when in Phnom Penh. It's basically a big field where alot of
people were killed during, again, Khmer Rouge
Royal Palace
This one is fronting the Riverside. Very beautiful at night. You can go here too in the morning and buy
some corns and seed to be fed to doves and whatever birds they are. One of my favorite spots.
Central Market: Phsar Thmei
The biggest indoor market in Phnom Penh. You can find alot of things inside from clothes, electronic etc.
You can find there also my most favorite streetfood SOURT. Just ask the people where it is. It's really
yummy and good. If you want some exotic food, you can find there also cricket and spider. I've tried
spider legs! I wanna vomit so bad (arachnophobic here, not exaggerating)
Russian Market
Buy here if you want souvenir clothes. Nothing special here.
Dreamland
Phnom Penh's amusement park fronting Naga World. The place is really not that crowded.
Not much rides and shows inside. If you have free time, enjoy your time here.
Sorya Mall
Largest mall in Cambodia. There you can find Lucky Supermarket (same with the one in Lucky Mall
in Siem Reap, my previous post) This mall is really crowded. When you enter, lots of stalls selling
jewelries. On the succeeding floors, lots of clothes shop and fast food outlets. This mall is very near
Central Market
Sovanna Mall
The exterior of this mall is similar to Sorya mall. When we arrived there I was like "Are we in Sorya??"
This mall is very packed during weekends. I like this mall better than Sorya. Oh, there's a KTV here too
at the uppermost floor, check it out :)
at the uppermost floor, check it out :)
Independence Monument
This monument looks beautiful at night. It's pillar, I have noticed, the same with Angkor Wat.
Wat Phnom
The biggest pagoda in Phnom Penh. Alot of people visit this place. 1USD entrance fee for tourists
Riverside
One of the best spots in the city. Feels good to walk here at night (plus the view of Royal Palace) perfect!
Where to eat?
Lucky Burger- same with the one in Siem Reap. If you want good burgers, go here.
Brown Coffee- Their very own Starbucks like cafe shop. Perfect place to chill out. I've tasted their cakes
it's good!
BBQ Chicken- They have a branch in Sorya Mall, Koh Pich and Phnom Penh Int' Airport. The best chicken that I ever tasted. You won't regret eating here. A bit pricey.
Master Sukisoup- Sukisoup (hotpot) is very popular in Cambodia. The nearest one you could go to is around Royal palace. Just say to the tuktuk and they know it for sure.
Pizza Company- Same with the one in Siem Reap. This one is located in front of Riverside (just beside the Royal palace) so if you are in for a stroll at night, might as well have your dinner here.
DQ- Yes, they have DQ too, and it's just right beside the Pizz Company. Perfect way to have your ice cream fix
Riverhouse- This one is actually a bar (small bar) located along Riverside (I tell you, most establishments are in there) food is good, music aint that bad.
Blue Pumpkin- Again, same with the one at Siem Reap. Located along Riverside too.
**I dont have that much places to eat suggestions for I just stayed there like 5 to 6 days (and usually I just stay at home at my partner's house Lol.) This February 2014 I will go back there again and maybe post alot more.
I will just update this post if I suddenly remember things. Feel free to comment for questions. Id be glad to help.

Cambodia: Kingdom of Wonder
Since my previous travel blog was all messed-up, I'll try to put here first my recent travel escapade. The one I am writing right now is a compilation of my Cambodia travels (Siem Reap and Phnom Penh). I went to the said country thrice this year: first on January, second on April and recently this August. What's up with this nation then?
Before I wasn't aware about Cambodia. Maybe I know but I don't care? haha! My country (Philippines) is already poor, why would I mind another? kidding aside, what really interests me is the famous Angkor Wat. It's one of the reasons why I decided to go there.
The only airline that brings Filipinos directly to Siem Reap (where Angkor Wat is located) is Cebu Pacific Air. Before they have Manila-Phnom Penh flight, I dunno why they scrapped it off. Scheduled flights for Manila-Siem Reap(both arrival and departure) are during evenings only and for us travelers, It's a waste of day.
Before landing, people are to fill-out two forms: Arrival card and Customs Declaration.
On my first trip, I was surprised that no one was manning the booth for Customs so people were like just walking straight ahead after getting the luggages (by the way, if your country is an ASEAN Member, there's no need for a visa). Angkor International Airport is a small. clean airport. Thumbs up for their quick immigration officers and fast relaying of luggages at the belt.
When you get out of the airport, don't be surprised with lots of people waiting outside, they are tuktuk drivers flashing cards with names of their guests. Usually when you book in a hotel/guesthouse, there's a complimentary free pick up at the airport so make sure to ask about it. Here are the guesthouses where I stayed in during my stay:
January- Bou Savy Guesthouse (since it's my first time, I opted to stay here cause It was highly recommended at travel forums) yes dear, I was really satisfied: free breakfast, wifi, clean rooms etc.
April- Bou Savy Guesthouse (I totally regret staying here for the 2nd time. There were bed bugs in my bedsheet and I had alot of bites. AS IN ALOT. Am I going back? No way.
August- Ta Som Guesthouse (another highly recommended GH in Tripadvisor. I was very pleased! I'll surely go back)
**rates range from 10 to 16USD/night
When it comes to services and location, Bou Savy and Ta Som are equal. I like both but what really made me despise Bou Savy are the bed bugs, total nightmare indeed. These two GH are located along Road no. 6 and near Sivutha Blvd (road that leads to Pubstreet) both 5 to 10mins walk going Pubstreet, If you feel like riding the Tuktuk, just pay 1 dollar.
It's a breeze riding the tuktuk especially at night. Some find it scary because you can barely see lights on the roads but for me, It was totally fine. I was never scared. I trust Khmer people because I have this good feeling about them.
Angkor Wat Tour
Don't be stressed-out thinking on how to execute plans because the hotel or guesthouse where you are staying usually have tour packages. For small circuit tour (includes Bayon Temple, Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, Terrace of the Leper King, Terrace of the Elephants, Ta Keo and Ba Phuon) fee is 12USD for the tuktuk driver. Make sure they offer free water okay? Because I tell you, temple-hopping is VERY EXHAUSTING. Oh, before you proceed roaming around, you need to buy ticket pass. There's a 1, 2 and 3 day pass. 1 day pass is 20USD. If you like being adventurous and looking forward to a lot more temples, better buy a 3 day pass. I can't suggest in order what to visit in 3 days because believe me, the tuktuk drivers/tour guides know better. They will take care of you.
My personal favorite temples
Ta Prohm- Need I say more? The movie Tomb Raider was shot here.
Angkor Wat- True beauty. I was really amazed when I first saw it. How were they able to do such masterpiece centuries ago?
Least favorite
Ta Keo- Scared the shit out of me. The stairs are so steep. When I was able to reach the top, I don't even wanna go down. If you're scared of heights like me, just don't go here.
For me visiting Angkor Wat and small circuit temples once in your life is enough. I felt templed-out and exhausted after my tour. Here's a tip: wear long sleeves, hat, sunblock, bring umbrella and always hydrate yourself.
Siem Reap is not all about Angkor Wat
Suggested food places:
Bun Tha 1979- a local khmer eatery. Try their khmer fried noodle and fried rice. Located along Sivutha Blvd (the road going Pubstreet)
Lucky Mall- located along Sivutha Blvd too. Its the biggest mall in Siem Reap.
Establishments inside:
Lucky burger- If you're craving for some burger, this is the place to be!
Lucky Shabu Buffet- Very cheap buffet! cost around 5 to 6USD. Ate here thrice this August!
Luckafe- Small cafe shop. Cakes arent that good, Espressos were fine.
Master Sukisoup- Look for Prince D' Angkor Hotel along Sivutha Blvd. The restaurant is located to the street next to it. 2 blocks away from Lucky Mall.
Pubstreet/Old Market Area
Golden Coconut- cheap but good food. We tried out their asian salad, beef fried rice etc. (located in front of Snow Yogurt. You will spot it easily)
Angkor Herb- a bit pricey for the skewers, small serving. Didnt like their Amok -_- located beside Golden Coconut
Sushi Bar Koh Kong- best Japanese resto located along Pubstreet. A bit pricey but worth it!
Chatime- Lol. Just included this one even if they haven't opened yet. They'll open in 2-weeks time
Snow yogurt- if you want quick yogurt fix
Lucky burger- aside from the one in Lucky Mall
Temple Club- the best club in SR. If you wanna go dancing might as well arrive around 10:30pm. Food is good, Angkor beer 1usd. Pitchers of liquor 9 to 10usd
Angkor What- Just in front of Temple Club. Same same with regards to drinks but smaller space.
Blue Pumpkin- Perfect chill cafe resto. Love their ice cream and desserts. Breads are a bit pricey but totally fine. There are three branches near Pubstreet. Make sure to go to the one near Old Market. Go up on 2nd floor and chillax in the couches
Swensens- located at Angkor Trade Center (few steps from Old Market) If you want some delicious ice cream, better go here.
Pizza Company- I love their pizzas! Located at Angkor Trade Center also.
Cambodia BBQ- As far as I remember it's beside Sushi Bar. This is degustation. Not worth it though.
Khmer House- Had their Noodles, Seafood and Rolls. Generous servings. Love it. Located in a small street next to Pubstreet. Please check other restos there. Dont solely focus on restos along Pubstreet
Old Market- If you wanna try khmer streetfood go here in the morning. Stalls usually close around 11am. Very crowded inside. Just go at the very center and there you'll see Khmer Soup Noodle, Kachay, Soy bean drink. Super cheap here!
**If you are on a tight budget, better eat at local eateries. A decent meal costs 2usd. Better bring water u got from hotel to save. Drinks are a bit pricey. Coke is 1usd.
Take home gift tips-
Night Market- there are 5 major night markets near Pubstreet. Prices are all the same. Scarves cost 2 to 4USD. If you want genuine silk, check the material very carefully, it's around 6 to 7USD. Lots of "I love cambodia"/angkor beer shirts, Jayavarmann and Buddha figures, Khmer outfits.
Lucky Mall Supermarket- inside lucky mall. Better buy your food items here. They have particular rack for Khmer Products. I love their Potato Chips! Dont forget to buy Kampot Pepper too and Mondulkiri Coffee (two of the best products that this country has to offer)
Old Market- If you want spices and ingredients this is the place to be. I highly recommend Khmer Chili Sauce (mild hot) When you eat at local eateries, you will notice that sauce bottle. Almost all eateries have that. It's very good esp. with Khmer fried yellow noodles. Make sure to buy the Khmer product okay? you may mistake it with the Thai Chili Sauce.
**Other things you could do at SR
Visit Preah Ang Chek Shrine- near Triangle mart (intersection of Sivutha Blvd and Road no.6) you can offer there and pray.
Angkor Trade Center Mall- Happy KTV located at 3rd floor. Opens at 11:30am. Don't go here too early. Sometimes they open very late.
Ride bicycle around Siem Reap- do this in the morning. I tell you it's super hot outside during noon and even till late afternoon. Most guesthouses offer bicycle rental, 2USD for the whole day.
Some Khmer words you can use during your trip
Joom Reap Sour- formal greeting to people
Sousdei- informal greeting
Joom Reap Lia- formal goodbye
Bong- refers to older man/woman
Oun- refers to younger man/woman
Or kun- Thank you
Tov- go
Yo men?- How much?
Bart- Yes
Atey- No
If you call a tuktuk and you wanna go somewhere, you can say
"Bong tov Ta Som Guesthouse, Yo men?"
When you are at pubstreet you will hear alot of
"Massage sir?? Tuktuk sir??"
Just say either Bart or Atey (Yes or No)
Take note: Be careful with pronunciation. I tell you, Khmer language is really hard to say.
And oh! Learn to haggle! Dont be intimidated and feel annoyed esp at night markets. Just walk if they keep on insisting.
Watch out for my upcoming post: Phnom Penh, the Capital City of Cambodia

You
12:10am
The last 8 months of my life was truly awesome for I met someone who changed my life. Like seriously, I've never been this happy in my entire existence. I feel happy with you, contented with you, loved by you. I kept asking myself before (take note, before. ok? hehe) why out of all creatures, why you? why an english teacher, why not...say...an architect or a tour guide somewhere? how did it happen so fast that we are in this situation? Well, destiny took the lead here.
Remember that time I broke up with you for you're such an ass? It's like only a month has passed and we were able to put the pieces back. Somewhere inside our hearts made it possible, that you and I, are meant to be together.
I don't really wanna post something like this on my new blog but I really can't control myself for doing such because it's so damn good.
(As of this writing, you havent messaged me yet maybe because a. youre sleeping b. no electricity c. wifi not working)
Nevermind. Anyway, moving on, were was I?
Who would have thought that things would work until now? Not questioning in a negative way but I just want to emphasize in this post how strong love really is. Even though we are totally far from each other, we keep on working things out to make this relationship possible. I really thank the technology (esp Line and Skype) for making it easy for us.
Bb, thank you for letting me love you. Thank you for making me much more understanding than ever. Before I am well-known for my unreachable PRIDE but now, because of you, I've learned to lessen it. That that certain word would bring our relationship nowhere. Thank you for loving me. You may not express it that much but I can totally feel it.
I don't like talking to anyone, I don't want meeting anyone from here, I only want you in my life. Sorry if sometimes you find me to clingy or possessive, I just get used to talk to you everyday and I easily feel sad whenever you don't message me (like right now, I dunno what happened to you, where are you!? lol)
I am happy to have met your family. They may not know about us but it's like our relationship is a notch higher because they are okay with me. I think? haha. You don't know how happy I was because it's a big deal for me knowing them. I simply want to thank them too for if not for them, I wouldn't have met you.
I really have alot to say here but I dunno how to properly put it in writing because all our experiences our popping out of my mind.
I wouldn't forget that day (that was just last Thursday) when we bid goodbye. After we hugged (since we can't kiss there) I cried so bad while seeing you ran back to your bus (Bb, seriously, you run like a kid. hehe) At that moment, I know deep within myself how I truly love you. How I can do anything for you. I want to take care of you so bad, do stuff for you, let you eat alot and make you even bigger, let you explore places and bring you out of your comfort zone. Being far away from each other is sure difficult. Instead of making ourselves sad with that, let's use it as a way of looking forward to each other. We are very happy when we are together right? Another thing, I hope you will come here. Maybe not now, but soon. Remember my plan? like even pick you up and bring you back there also? hehe.
It's almost 1:30am and still, no message from you. Gotta go to sleep now.
I love you very much.
Who would have thought
A year ago, I was just a single, happy and contented, I love myself kind of guy, I am totally fine with me spending time at our family business cause I know that that is what I meant to be doing, maybe for the rest of my life. I was happy with my travels too, going here and there without any objections from my parents. I see my friends from time to time and that thing really made me miss my college life. Now, being 23 years old, I feel like aging already
...and I haven't accomplished that much.
Up until now, I can't accept the fact that maybe my life would just only be like this (go to shop the whole day from Monday to Saturday) I need to help my Dad. I am not forced to do this, well in fact I am very willing. But I wanna do more for myself. I want to be a singer, I want to be a good cook, I want to study again
...but I dont know how to start.
Who would have thought that over a year ago, you have so much plans but now, destiny is taking its lead. Things may not go my way now but I will make damn sure that I will be satisfied with my life and I will start doing things that will make me happy.
